An exterior repaint we finished in Independence
The house in the photo on this page is one of ours. It is a large shake-sided home on a wooded lot, with a covered front porch, gables and dormers across the front, and a tall wall of windows facing the back patio. We repainted the siding a soft sage green and the trim white: the window casings, the corner boards, the fascia and the porch posts. Shake siding takes more time than lap siding. Every course has edges and gaps, and they have to be worked with a brush after the sprayer passes or the old color shows in the shadow lines. The trim was the other half of the job. With that many windows, the lines where green meets white are what you notice from the driveway, so those were cut by hand. The wood garage doors stayed stained, which sets off the green. More photos of this house are on our work page.
Painting acreage homes and wood siding in Independence
Most Independence homes sit on several acres, and the lot shapes the paint job as much as the house does. Homes back in the trees stay shaded and damp on the north and east walls, which is where mildew grows and paint lets go first. Homes out in the open take full sun and wind on the south and west walls, where color fades and the finish chalks. We look at each side separately and plan the prep and the painting order around it. Wood siding is common here: cedar shakes, cedar lap siding and board-and-batten on the garages and outbuildings. Cedar that has only ever been stained should stay stained, and we will tell you on the walkthrough which finish you have. Bare or weathered wood gets primer before paint so the color goes on even. Acreage properties usually come with more than one building, and we paint barns, pole buildings and detached garages on the same visit as the house so the colors match across the yard.
Painting lake homes on Lake Independence
Lake Independence sits on the east side of the city, and Lake Sarah touches the north edge. Lake homes get weather the rest of town does not. The wall facing the water takes morning dew and fog through the warm months, so it stays wet longer and its paint ages faster than the street side. Decks and railings on the lake side take sun and water together. On a lake home we wash the water-facing wall with a mildewcide, give it extra time to dry, and paint it in the part of the day when it is driest. Light off the water also changes how a color reads, so we brush samples on the lake side of the house before anyone orders paint.
Scheduling a painting job in Independence
Every Independence job starts with a walkthrough and a written estimate, and a color sample goes on your actual siding before we order. Exterior painting runs from about May to the middle of October, when the siding and the overnight air stay above roughly 50 degrees. We book exteriors in the order estimates are approved. Long driveways and big yards make staging simple: the sprayer, ladders and lift stay near the house, and plantings and stonework get covered before any paint comes out.
Exterior painting in Independence
Exterior painting is most of what we do in Independence, because the homes are large, heavily trimmed and sided in wood. A job here is mostly prep and brush work: washing, scraping, priming bare spots, then two coats with the trim cut by hand. Our exterior painting page walks through the process, the season and what drives the cost. How an exterior repaint goes, and what moves the cost.
Interior and cabinet painting in Independence
Once the weather turns, we move inside. Independence homes tend to have tall great rooms, stained trim and big kitchens, so winter work here is often a two-story wall of windows, a set of oak cabinets sprayed in enamel, or a whole main floor repainted while the family is home. We work one area at a time and clean up every day. See interior painting and cabinet and trim enamel.

Questions we hearCommon painting questions in Independence
Can you repaint shake siding on an Independence home?
Yes. We recently repainted a large shake-sided home in Independence sage green with white trim. Shakes are sprayed and then back-brushed so the paint gets into the edges and gaps between courses, which is where the old color hides. It takes longer than lap siding, and the estimate reflects that.
Do you paint barns and outbuildings on Independence acreages?
Yes. We paint barns, pole buildings, sheds and detached garages, and we bring a lift for tall gable ends. Painting them on the same visit as the house keeps the colors matched across the property. A barn we painted nearby in Greenfield is on our work page, with before and after photos.
When should we schedule exterior painting in Independence?
Exterior painting season runs from about May to mid-October, and we book jobs in the order estimates are approved. The earlier in the year you have us out for a walkthrough, the more choice you have on timing. Interior painting and cabinet work can be scheduled any time, including winter.
